Kolkata: As the protest at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) entered the 8th day on Wednesday, the agitating students attempted to force the college council to write an undersign mentioning that they will be allotted rooms in the new hostel.The college council has, however, refused to give any undersign as demanded by the agitating students. The principal of CMCH, Uchhal Bhadra, is still undergoing treatment in SSKM, where he was admitted on Tuesday. He complained of chest pain following the harassment. After primary treatment in CMCH, the Principal was taken to SSKM Hospital, where he was kept in the ITU. It happened after a scuffle broke out at the time of agitation inside the hospital campus on Tuesday. The agitating students threatened to continue the demonstration as the college council denied to give a written document. However, CMCH authorities have agreed to meet the demands. Around 276 hostel rooms have also been allotted by CMCH authorities. But the agitating students refused to listen to the authorities and demanded rooms in the new hostel building.The second, third and fourth year MBBS students of CMCH started a protest agitation inside the hospital campus after the first year MBBS students were given a new hostel by the authorities. Dr Raunak Hajari, state working president, Progressive Junior Doctors’ Association said: “Today (Wednesday), the MCDSA activists along with their counterparts gheraoed the entire college council, trying to force them into signing the copy of their demands.Meanwhile, it is to be noted that 12 food packets were brought at their hunger strike venue on Tuesday night, raising a big question on the real nature of their so called “anashan”.
